Atelier Prato, Milan – Review by Celine

30-hour trip to Milan led me to Atelier Prato—a stylish, bustling café with great avocado toast and detox juice.

HOW I DISCOVERED THE SHOP

During my 30-hour trip to Milan a few weeks ago (just to attend a fanmeeting, mind you!), I knew I had to visit another coffee shop. It was my second-time in Milan, so I was kind of familiar with the city, meaning that I had no problems navigating in it. When looking for the said coffee shop on Xiaohongshu (小红书), a Chinese social media platform, I came across Atelier Prato a few times. The overall architecture of the shop really appealed to me, so I decided to go to this one instead of another.

WHAT IS ATELIER PRATO?

When I arrived at 10am, the shop was already packed. Thankfully, the wait wasn’t long and we could be seated within 5 minutes of arriving. The staff was kind and showed us to our seats. While waiting for our orders, I had the occasion to observe my surroundings a bit more. They had many staff, with at least 5 people makings the coffees. The coffee machine they use is from La Marzocco, which is very familiar to me. They also sell their own coffee beans; I used to always buy a pack when discovering a new coffee shop, but this time, I decided against it because I only had a backpack with me. They also have a corner where they sell flowers, walk-in only, and you could see the staff arranging them.

MY HONEST REVIEW

As I had a long day ahead of me, and wouldn’t be able to eat before 7pm, I decided to test their avocado toast, since I’m a huge fan of them. As for drinks, I wasn’t able to try their coffee, as I didn’t want to worsen my endometriosis. Therefore, I settled for a “detox” juice. My sister was with me, and wasn’t sure of what to order: I decided for her, so she tried a smoothie and a focaccia. In my opinion, the detox juice was very good, and I could see that it was one of their best-sellers: many people around me ordered the same drink. The avocado toast was good, but I was a bit surprised by the size of it. I couldn’t try my sister’s order as it was a bit too greasy for me, but she was also satisfied with what she had.

Overall, I’d rate the place a 8/10. While the place was very well-thought architecture-wise, it was a bit too noisy for me, and the wait for our order was a bit long (which is understandable since they had so many customers). If I were to go back to Milan again, I’d go back and try their coffee this time.
