Original Picture
Between work and studies, I finally visited Geurimi Café – a Korean Ghibli-inspired haven where coffee meets art. Pure magic in every sip!
HOW I DISCOVERED THE SHOP
As a student who literally works 7 days a week, I sadly don’t have enough time to explore all the new coffee shops that opened in Paris. However, last Friday, we had self-study time. I deemed it the perfect opportunity to try a coffee shop that had been on my wishlist for so long, especially since I’ve seen so many positive reviews about it on social media.
WHAT IS GEURIMI CAFÉ?
Geurimi Café is a Korean coffee shop created by a devoted animation enthusiast. The moment you step inside, you’re transported into a Ghibli-like world – with an atmosphere that personally reminds me of Kiki’s Delivery Service (one of my favourites!). Geurimi (그림이) means “picture”, or, in this case “painting”, as you can enjoy your coffee and pastry while drawing! They provide some paper and stationery on the tables, and you can try as many as you want. When you’re done, they display your drawing on their wall.
MY HONEST REVIEW
I opted for an iced tea americano, a mix that’s very popular in Korea, paired with their lemon cheese pound cake. My friend chose a traditional Korean drink: misutgaru, a cereal powder-based latte.
Back when I worked at Starbucks, one of the weirdest drink orders I’ve encountered was a peach iced tea with a shot of expresso. I remember thinking that the combination might taste odd, but I was pleasantly surprised when I tried my drink – the tea and coffee didn’t clash at all, though a bit too sweet for my taste. As an avid lemon lover, I found the pound cake delicious and perfectly moist. I didn’t enjoy my friend’s drink, a bit too powdery for me.
Overall, I’d rate this café a 9.5/10! I loved my experience, from the friendly staff to the delicious pastries. Sadly, I didn’t contribute to their drawing wall – I absolutely cannot draw to save my life.
