Selva Coffee, Seville – Review by Celine

Selva Coffee: Seville’s hidden gem for specialty brews and delicious breakfasts.

How I discovered the shop

Whenever I travel, I like to go on a hunt for specialty coffee shops. Specialty coffee is the highest-grade type of coffee, of single origin. Last month, I went to Seville, a ravishingly beautiful city located in the South of Spain. The first thing I did, even before arriving, was to look for one. I was a bit surprised to see that there were less than I expected. However, all of them were of undeniable quality.

What is Selva Coffee?

While looking for the said specialty coffee shops, the first one that attracted my attention was Selva Coffee, a green shop with a cute and minimalist decor. After looking at some more pictures as well as the menu, I knew I had to bring my friend and myself over there. Luckily, it was only a 10-minute walk from our accommodation, therefore we went there for breakfast.

When entering, you immediately feel its cosy atmosphere. The products they use, from coffee to milk, but also matcha, are put on display, making it possible to buy them. Going further into the shop, you see the counter where you can order. The menu is small, but you can immediately feel the quality. They offer classic coffees, such as cortados and lattes, filters, but also house specials such as espresso spritz or golden cappuccino.

My honest review

I did not feel very adventurous that day, therefore we ordered a regular hot oat latte and a coconut matcha cloud, as well as a chocolate banana bread and a tomato pistachio tostada (team savoury breakfast!). Even though simple, the tostada was very good and well-seasoned: it was a toasted slice of bread, with tomatoes and pistachio crumbles, with a dash of olive oil and sea salt. The chocolate banana bread was also decent, even though I felt like the chocolate was overpowering the banana. However, I’m not a huge fan of chocolate so my review might be biased.

The coconut cloud matcha was very refreshing; I didn’t expect the matcha cloud to be sweetened with vanilla, which was surprisingly a good match with the coconut water. Not being a fan of hot drinks, I was pleasantly surprised with the oat latte: the coffee was very good and the oat milk brought out the hidden flavour of the espresso beans.

I’d rate my experience and the products a solid 9/10. The prices were also pretty cheap compared to France, so all of this came to a total of only 16.10 euros. If I were to ever go back to Seville, I’d go back there to try the other products in a heartbeat!
